Digital Imaging Speciality

Whether you want to be the next David Doubilet (well-known underwater photographer) or simply want to take a half decent for photograph or video for your own enjoyment, the PADI Underwater Imaging Speciality course can get you on the right track to achieving your aims.

What does the course consist of?

Your digital underwater imaging course will consist of:

Knowledge Development: Through homework and the vast knowledge of your  Instructor you will learn about –

  • Different types of underwater cameras and housings
  • How water affects light
  • The importance of white balance
  • How to control digital exposure
  • Focus and perspective
  • The use of flashes, strobes and focus lights
  • Composition
  • The hazards of underwater imaging and how to avoid them
  • How to prepare, set-up and maintain your camera equipment
  • How to dive with a camera, including buoyancy control
  • Digital workflow – the principles of post production

Your newly acquired knowledge will be put into practice during two open water dives.  You will be able to take as many photographs or video as you can to try and get the best images possible.

What can I do after this course?
Things to do after you qualify: Rescue Diver
The Rescue Diver course is the logical next step for the majority of Advanced Open Water Divers.  You will learn the next stage in not only looking after yourself but also how to prevent emergencies and care for others if one should arise.  It's a serious course but huge amounts of fun!
Things to do after you qualify: Go on Dive Trips
At Wraysbury Dive Centre we organise dive trips both at home in the UK and abroad.   Trips are organised for all levels of diver.  Just keep an eye on our trips page here and on our facebook page for upcoming events
Things to do after you qualify: Buy Dive Kit
You may have already bought your first dive toys but if you have not, you may be considering making that first purchase.  We would always recommend that you purchase your dive equipment from a dive shop rather than shopping online (and its not just because we have a dive shop on site).  Buying in person allows you to try things on so that you get the right fit, get the right advice and kit for the type of diving that you intend to do and benefit from the experience of those that actually go diving.  You may also end up with a better deal than you imagined.
